Hand Knitting Stitches - Herringbone in the round
Herringbone stitch makes a very attractive fabric. It does tend to pull together, so be sure to go up a needle size or two.  
Looks good made with this robust chunky and self-striping yarn.
Pattern
Cast on an even number of sts.
Round 1: *K2tog, slipping only the first stitch off the left needle; rep from * until 1 stitch remains.
Remove the stitch marker and k2tog, slipping the first stitch off the left needle. Place the stitch marker to the right of the first stitch on the right needle.
Round 2: *K2tog TBL, slip only the first stitch off the left needle; rep from * until 1 stitch remains.
Remove the stitch marker and K2tog TBL, slipping the first stitch off the left needle. Place the stitch marker to the right of the first stitch on the right needle.
Rep Rounds 1-2.
